Our Programs

Physical Education

Our Physical Education program encourages children to stay active, build confidence, and develop a love of movement. With access to our full-sized, on-site gymnasium, students enjoy a variety of games, organized sports, dance, and age-appropriate activities that develop coordination, teamwork, and fundamental movement skills. We strive to make physical activity a fun, positive, and rewarding part of every child's school experience.

Lunch Program

Our on-site kitchen provides freshly prepared, nutritious meals and snacks each day, with a focus on whole foods children genuinely enjoy. Our monthly menus thoughtfully introduce new flavours while offering familiar favourites. Mealtimes are also an important part of our Montessori curriculum, encouraging conversation, independence, and practical life skills as children learn to set their places, practise table manners, and tidy up after themselves.

French Language Learning

Bonjour! At LHMS, French is a part of every student's daily school experience. Through age-appropriate lessons, songs, games, and conversation, children are introduced to the French language in a fun and engaging way. Our daily French lessons encourage students to develop vocabulary, build confidence in their communication skills, and gain an appreciation for Canada's second official language.

Beyond the Classroom

Learning happens beyond the classroom through a variety of enriching experiences and activities. From music and gymnastics to swimming, rock climbing, STEM exploration, and visits to our local library, these opportunities encourage children to discover new interests, develop confidence, and connect with the world around them. Our activities vary throughout the school year, bringing new experiences and opportunities for learning to our students.

Learning in
Nature

Nature is an important part of everyday life at LHMS, with natural materials and seasonal discoveries explored both inside and outside the classroom. We prioritize daily outdoor time in all seasons, embracing fresh air and active play, rain, snow, or shine. Our spacious play yard supports outdoor learning and shared mealtimes, while local nature walks encourage curiosity and exploration. Our special “Forest Fridays” invite students to spend much of the day outdoors, fostering a lasting connection to the natural world.

Exploring the Community

Learning extends into the community through meaningful outings and shared experiences. From outdoor adventures at Highlands Nordic to visits to local museums, libraries, and community events, our students have opportunities to explore and discover the world around them. Our Elementary students also attend local Remembrance Day ceremonies, fostering reflection, empathy, and an appreciation for our shared history. These experiences encourage independence, build confidence, and strengthen children's connection to the community they call home.
